I was listening to Nine Inch Nail's The Downward Spiral last week, and you know, there are some pretty blatant ideas in there. "I want to fuck you like an animal" and "he dreamed a god up and called it Christianity." Pretty pointed references. But, I though, what if you stripped all of those obvious meanings and replaced them with something else? Something that Trent Reznor never intended (yet would likely appreciate). The Downward Spiral came out in 1994. Fast forward 10 years, and I think it accurate (and eerily) describes the 2004 Presidential Election...
I don't have too much time on my hands, I swear.

"In one of the grandest events in the history of the world, millions of Iraqis risked death on Sunday to vote in a free, democratic election."It's not so much that it's Ann saying this, because she's really saying it tongue-in-cheek (because that's all the action her cheek ever gets), it's that people are actually saying it seriously.
-Ann Coulter, for once displaying a sense of humor.
Ok, people, for the record: The Iraqi elections were about as meaningful as Florida in 2000 and Ohio in 2004. It's not so much that the outcome was a foregone conclusion (it was), but the sheer complexity coupled with lack of explanation was astounding.
The media tells you that they voted in a free and democratic election. Ok, well, when we think 'free and democratic', we usually think 'two guys and maybe some third party candidates'. Well, that's not the case here.
This election was not actually for governance. It was to determine the people who get to sit around and smile for photo-ops while we write their Constitution for them (And don't think we won't, because we did it to the Afghans). There were 111 names on the ballot. ONE HUNDRED ELEVEN. We had Kerry (D), Bush (R), Nader (I), Cobb (G), Petrouka (C), and Badnarik (L). Various states had more or less, but those were the six. The Iraqis had 111. Now, that's not 111 candidates, nooooo. That's 111 POLITICAL PARTIES. Each political party represented a group of people, in some cases, as many as 270+ candidates EACH.
And when the Iraqis went to the polls, did they know who to vote for? Nope, because there was no campaign. Why? Because it's hard to campaign when you're a) pinned down by hostile fire, b) being anally violated with a flashlight, or c) already dead. So, no one campaigned because they didn't want to get raped. Or killed. Or raped then killed. Or killed then raped. Some of them didn't even list their name on the ballot.
So, let me summarize: You go to the polls on Election day, and there's a good chance that someone might shoot you or drive a bomb-laden car into the building. Not a good start to the day. Then, you see the ballot. On the ballot are six names:
The Patriotic Front for America
Blessed Christian Council
American People's Union
Pride and Freedom United
Christian Patriotic Organization
American Democracy Action Council
Who do you vote for? Quick, the guy behind you has something in his hand and he's fidgeting.
George Bush keeps pointing out how there was like a 72% turnout for the election. I've got a good theory as to why: Under Saddam, they had elections all the time. The choices were "Saddam: Yes" and "Saddam: No". The guys with guns gave you a clear indication as to which way you should vote. They also made it clear that you better get to the polls. This is old hat to them. "Hey! It's election day! Let's go vote!"
"Who do I pick?"
"No idea. Just go, vote, and maybe we won't get killed."
A whole bunch of people voted for candidates they knew nothing about for reasons they didn't fully understand. Iraq, welcome to American-style democracy.

Democracy Costs Money.
Regardless of who you voted for, regardless of what your ideologies are, this is important. There is evidence of massive misrepresentation in this election. The Green Party and the Libertarian Party have joined forces to get a recount in Ohio, but they need to raise roughly $150,000 (Because simply being a candidate isn't enough anymore), and they're a third of the way there. I pitched in $10 via PayPal. The link above goes right to their donation site.
Ten bucks is a small price to pay to make sure that people's votes are actually counted.
They've got until November 15th to get their recount bid in. That's three days. They got almost $50k in one. Just skip the dollar menu at MickDick's for ten days.

So, to all the people on my friends list who are still miffed over November 2nd, I ask you to take heart:
Four more years of Bush may seem suicidal, and he may lead us into chaos, but there is hope. No matter what he does, as long as the 22nd Amendment remains intact, we'll be rid of him in four years. The worse they screw things up, the easier it will be for a Democratic challenger to win.
Of course, you don't want to hear that. Neither do I. You want a stop to this madness now. Well, folks, hope is still alive. Bush hasn't been sworn in for a second term, so the ball is still in play. And here's why.
There is evidence of massive electoral fraud. Keith Olbermann may be the only one in the media talking about it, but his voice is just loud enough to fly under the major radar. And that's a good thing. Ralph Nader is working on a recount in New Hampshire. If Ralph can prove that Diebold machines caused a significant swing for Bush in NH, then they'll have a case to crack open bigger eggs, like Ohio (Which didn't use Diebold, but did use other EV machines that have already shown glaring errors).
There's rumors that North Carolina may be forced to re-vote because of countless glitches. Florida has reported massive errors.
John Kerry may have conceded the race, but there's nothing legally binding in that. He's got his legal team looking into things, and (like a good former DA) if he finds enough evidence, he'll crack it wide open.
Kerry may yet prevail. So, don't give up hope. Write to your senators. Write to your congessman. These people are there for YOU, not the other way around. Tell them to have Congress launch an investigation. GET HEARD.
And if you need more cheering up, check out

It's not over until the fat lady sings, and she's still in the back sipping her scotch.

Dear Senator Specter,
I would like to begin by thanking you for your position on federal court justice appointments. I understand that you have come under fire for speaking your mind and making it known that you will not simply rubber-stamp anything without giving it a fair look. That took a lot of courage. I will freely admit that I did not vote for you, however, I do sincerely thank you for considering the welfare of all your constituents, not just those who support you.
Knowing that you work for the good of all Pennsylvanians, indeed, all Americans, I call upon you to consider what many in America would consider a pressing matter. I urge you to take every effort to investigate the growing allegations of electoral fraud in a number of states. It does this country no good to have a leader who gained his office illegally, be they Republican, Democrat, Conservative, or Liberal.
Our democracy is not served when people are denied the right to vote, votes are discarded, or results are manipulated.
You have it within your power to support an investigation. Please, for the sake of all that this country was founded on, exercise that power. Even if such an investigation does not change the outcome of the election, it will be time well spent if even if one more vote is counted. We cannot allow our government to subvert the voice of the people.
We have a government by the people, for the people. Once it becomes a government by the government, the people become little more than slaves. Please do not let our electoral process be marred by fraud
Thank You

I urge you to take every effort to investigate the growing allegations of electoral fraud in a number of states. It does this country no good to have a leader who gained his office illegally, be they Republican, Democrat, Conservative, or Liberal.

I have declared the mourning to be over. A list of dos and do nots:
1) Do not ever let go of the fact that they stole 2 straight elections. Just because I'm not slitting my wrists or fleeing to Canada doesn't mean that I've accepted that everything is hunky-dory in FuckedDemocracyLand. It's not. They stole two elections, and goddamnit, they shall not do it again.
2) Do whatever I can to make sure that 2006 is the most united leftist movement in this country since 1776. Let's see how George likes it when congress treats him like Cheney treated Senator Leahy. Gay Marriage Amendment? GO FUCK YOURSELF. Military spending? GO FUCK YOURSELF. Permission to piss while standing up? GO FUCK YOURSELF. See how much fun the 'legacy term' is when you can't get approval for a new roll of toilet paper in the residency.
3) Do whatever I can to make sure that 2008 is the most united leftist movement in this country since 2006. Find a candidate that can win, and get EVERY PERSON IN AMERICA TO LOVE HIM. Preferrably around 2006. The Democratic primary should have exactly as many people on the ballot as the Republicans did this year: One. No squabbling, no wondering if the guy you just emasculated is going to be your VP candidate. No infighting. Pick one. Hillary? Obama? DEAN? I don't care, as long as a) they have a personality, b) they have a spine, and c) they can win on sheer sex appeal. I want John Edwards with Howard Dean's brain. I want a guy who can walk into a Southern Baptist church and have every vote locked up because women will tell their men, "I don't care if he's pro-choice, dear. If you don't vote for him, you're not going to get the chance to make anything that might be abortable. I fantasize about him when you're flopping around on top of me, and I don't care if he says men can marry each other, HE IS TEH SEX."
That is all.

I've already reconciled my standing on moving to Canada, if it comes to that.
I'm beyond draft age, so it's not because of that.
I am, however, very liberal, and very Pagan. I've seen a religious shift in the country over the last four years, and, quite honestly, I'm scared. Bush now has a firmly Republican House and Senate, and with that, a mandate. He has no re-election concerns. He likely has two-four Supreme Court Justices to appoint.
I believe that I have a right to not live in fear, and right now, I'm scared that my rights will erode to the point that I have to watch what I say in my own home, that I will be unable to practice my religion, that I will be deemed a political insurgent and jailed for my views.
People say that 'it can't happen here'. It's already started. I love my country, but when my country doesn't love me, it's time to put things in priority. It's like a bad relationship. Just because you love someone is no reason to stay in an abuseive relationship.
America, I might soon decide to just be friends.

Who are you going to vote for on Nov. 2nd?

Chief Justice William H. Rehnquist has thyroid cancer
It's not just a President you're voting for. It's an ADMINISTRATION.
So you want to vote your conscience. You don't care that your candidate doesn't have a snowball's chance in hell. You want your voice to be heard on the national scale.
Let me remind you of what's at stake:
It's not just four more years of Bush. It's not just four more years of Dick Cheney.
It's four more years of Donald Rumsfeld and his horrific mishandling of the military.
It's four more years of Condoleeza Rice and her disregard for our security.
It's four more years of Tom Ridge using terror as a political tool.
It's four more years of John Ashcroft stripping away your civil liberties.
So, you think you can sacrifice four years on a vote for Nader or Badanarik? Here's the clincher:
Two, maybe three(perhaps more) new Supreme Court Justice appointments will be made by the next president. They may serve twenty or more years. They will determine the course of our government for far longer than Bush or Kerry.
I understand the desire for a third party. I understand your frustration with two primary parties that have been hijacked by outside elements. I understand your anger and your desire to vote for someone who talks the talk you want to hear. It's not the time. This one is far too important. It would be different if it was Hillary Clinton vs. Rudy Giuliani, where you get about the same either way.
You get a choice: Vote for Bush, get a dangerous neo-con that's plunged us into a war and raped the Constitution. Vote for Kerry, and get a guy who's not going to fix everything he claims to be able to fix.
Vote for a third party, and you get dragged along with whoever wins. Who do you want to win more? There's only two answers:
Bush or Kerry. No 'neither of the above'. No 'Cobb'. No 'Brown'. Bush or Kerry. Take your pick.

When asked to comment on the Israel-Palestinian conflict during the debate Tuesday night, Edwards had another personal story:You know what? Dick Cheney never met John Edwards. It's obvious, even despite all the damned liberal proof to the contrary. Know why? Ann never ONCE mentioned it. Must be true. Because when Dick Cheney says
Now, if I can, just for a moment, tell you a personal story. I was in Jerusalem a couple of years ago, actually three years ago, in August of 2001, staying at the King David Hotel. We left in the morning, headed to the airport to leave, and later in the day I found out that that same day, not far from where we were staying, the Sbarro Pizzeria was hit by a suicide bomber in Jerusalem. Fifteen people were killed. Six children were killed.
A strange psychological compulsion compels some people to inject themselves into all historic events. On cross examination, it generally turns out they were not actually in New York City on 9-11, but had visited New York a week earlier. They did not march in Selma, but knew someone who knew someone who did. They were not near the Sbarro Pizzeria, but in the same country where it happened.
John Edwards managed to turn the deadly bombing of the pizzeria into another story about himself. On the basis of his brush with death, Edwards concluded: 'What are the Israeli people supposed to do? ... They have not only the right but the obligation to defend themselves.' (The scariest part of the story was that Edwards just had his nails done at the manicure place next door to the pizzeria that very day!)
So are we to surmise that if Edwards had not been at the King David Hotel the day the Sbarro Pizzeria was blown up, he would not think Israel has a right to defend itself?"
Twenty years ago we had a similar situation in El Salvador. We had -- guerrilla insurgency controlled roughly a third of the country, 75,000 people dead, and we held free elections. I was there as an observer on behalf of the Congress.it's not the same as John Edward's strange psychological compulsion that compels him to inject himself into all historic events.
The human drive for freedom, the determination of these people to vote, was unbelievable. And the terrorists would come in and shoot up polling places; as soon as they left, the voters would come back and get in line and would not be denied the right to vote.
And today El Salvador is a whale of a lot better because we held free elections.
The world according to Ann Coulter: Dick Cheney: Messenger from God that speaks naught but the truth. John Edwards: Never met Dick Cheney. Liar. Thief. Baby-raper. Al-Qaida sympathizer. Chainsaw Murderer (where do you think he got those perfect teeth!?)

This began as a response to
the_leeb's reply to my debate recap saying how all her friends are Bush lovers. I figured I'd put it here for everyone to see. If you need a debate point, here's a good start.
I don't understand how women (or anyone, for that matter) can vote for Bush. 4 more years will set the stage for an overturn of Roe v. Wade, which could then make birth control unavailable, as well. So, we won't have stem cell research, women will die due to ectopic and other dangerous pregnancies because they'll be legally barred from having an abortion (never mind that the child will die anyway). Population rates will rise, as will unwanted children. Because of that, more women will die because they'll be having illegal backalley abortions that are completely unsafe. And since we won't have any form of healthcare or social security, the middle class will begin to slip towards poverty.
People can be pro-life all they want. When you start forcing the law to make other people conform to your dogma, everyone loses.
Bush is responsible for the death of somewhere north of 10,000 Iraqi civilians. He's trying to strip women of control of their own bodies (which, incidentally, was a major contributor to the rise of the Inquisition and a buch of stake-burnings). He's trying to destroy civil liberties.
What can he do with 4 more years? Look what he's done already! Two illegal wars and thousands dead! An economy in the tank! Imagine if the man didn't have to worry about being re-elected!
And that's not even the scariest part. Whoever's sitting in the Oval Office will almost definately get to pick two Supreme Court judges. If anyone has a right to bitch about activist judges, it'll be the over 50% of America that's not conservative. 'Activist judges' sidestepped the 10th Amendment back in 2000 and installed Bush in the White House, 5-4. What if that margin is 6-3 in favor of a 3rd term? What if that margin is 7-2 in favor of pushing back the elections... indefinately?
4 more years of Bush isn't just 4 more years to collect Bushism. It's a deal with the devil, and only a choice few come out ahead.
Don't think it can happen here? It's already happening!
Just ask Yasser Hamdi, an American citizen who was held without charge for 3 years as an 'enemy combatant', stripped of his citizenship, and then released without so much as an apology.
Ask the growing number of rape victims who have been unable to get their prescriptions for emergency birth control filled.
Ask the thousands of black voters who were erroneously listed as felons in Florida, and therefore were not allowed to cast their vote for Gore (remember, he only needed 550 more to be President).
Ask the thousands of Iraqis who, incidentally, didn't fly planes into the WTC, but are dead anyway as casualties of the 'War on Terror'.
Ask the thousands of protestors in NYC, some with their handcuffs locked too tight, who were penned up in a building saturated with carcinogenic fumes and denied basic civil liberties, such as a phone call.
You want 4 more years of this?
-pb

Denis Leary hosts a hockey game every year at the Fleet Center in Boston, with teams staffed by celebrities, former players, and (except for this year with an excuse for campaigning) John Kerry.
Steven Tyler was an assistant coach this year. Leary and a former Bruin got into a fight 4 seconds in. And Michael J. Fox scored a hat trick.
I'll say that again: MICHAEL J. FOX SCORED THREE GOALS IN A HOCKEY GAME, ON SKATES.
Oh, and if you needed any more inspiration to vote for the man...

Yes, that is really him. For proof, go here.

I’m guessing it’s time for me to chime in on the debates last night. I’ll start off by saying that a) I was playing the drinking game and b) I’m going to be biased, regardless of how much I try not to be.
From the get go, Kerry got the drop on Bush with his opening remarks. Bush couldn’t follow up with anything better, because Kerry had said it all.
They tried to stay as on-message as possible, I’ll give them that. They both spun facts in their favor. But since Kerry was preaching to the converted, and Bush wasn’t, let’s focus on how they looked, not what they said.
Kerry had a tan that everyone is criticizing him on, even though summer just ended, We all know that people from Massachusetts don’t tan, so it has to be fake (sarcasm!). Bush was, well, the same person we’ve grown to expect.
Kerry had his pitch down pat. Bush looked confused from the beginning of the first question. Kerry took notes. Bush drank water and looked frustrated. Kerry defended his record before Bush could attack it, and then went on the offensive.
Jim Lehrer managed to keep the whole thing together.
Kerry managed his time a lot better. Both candidates cut each other off when presented with the opportunity.
Kerry was much more poised and composed than Bush. He had better answers, and made better arguments. He had Bush reeling early, and didn’t stop until it was over.
Kerry gets the win.
Here’s hoping it rolls him to a win in November.

So, I've got a drinking game, now I just need players. Anyone who wants to come to La Casa De Bagosy and watch the fate of our nation being bandied about is welcome! Just let me know by Wednesday so we can get an accurate food count. We'll provide the food, you provide the liquor. Bush and Kerry will provide the entertainment!

Thanks to
revsweeney, I've been working on a drinking game for the Bush / Kerry debate on Thursday. I stole the bulk of this from The Slate's Democratic debates game, but I had to update it alot. Here's what I've got so far:
Take a drink if:
A candidate mentions an ordinary American by name
A candidate mentions a member of his or her family
A candidate gives out his or her campaign Web site URL
A candidate flourishes a printout of a strategy paper or a bill he or she co-sponsored
A candidate looks into the wrong camera during introductions
A candidate speaks Spanish
A candidate refuses to answer a hypothetical question
A candidate promises to "support our troops"
A candidate refers to his opponent as 'my opponent' instead of by name
Take two drinks if:
A candidate says his opponent is "wrong"
A candidate says he is "surprised" by something his opponent says
The camera catches an audience member in mid-yawn
A candidate successfully dodges a direct question
Drain your glass if:
You laugh out loud at a candidate's joke
Finish the bottle if:
The candidates get into a fistfight
Anyone have anything to add, or a suggestion as to what to drink?

The November Election is just over a month away, and try as he may, John Kerry is still an undefined candidate. And not, mind you, for lack of trying. His words are twisted, distorted, taken out of context, and therefore, misunderstood. John Kerry is a candidate without a clear message, if you believe all the hype. This is simply not the case. There are a number of things about John Kerry that need to be expressed.
First, there is what John Kerry is not. John Kerry is not the Great White Liberal hope. He is not the candidate that is going to move the country completely to the Left, and he is not going to be the perfect Liberal President.
John Kerry is not indecisive. His perceived flip-flops have been natural progressions as he has learned more about issues that were previously obscured. Just like every one of us, he has formed opinions based on the available facts, and had to change them when the facts were updated or changed. The difference between John Kerry and the average American is that John Kerry is in the unenviable position of having to make life-or-death decisions based on these facts. It behooves him to change the way he thinks when new evidence is brought to light. If the average American were to cling to the belief that the world was flat because it was once believed to be, even after seeing a globe, then that person would be considered mentally unsound. Not the type of person we need as a leader. John Kerry, by his simple change of opinion, has proven that he is open to new information. He has shown the public that as the intelligence changes, so does he. As President, John Kerry will change and update his thinking and approach as the information he is given changes. He has proven that he will not cling to failed or outdated intelligence.
John Kerry and his running mate, John Edwards, are not the average American. They are both millionaires. However, this is a necessity in politics. The average American simply does not have the capital necessary to wage a political campaign. They need to travel the country, be in three cities in one day, and spread their message. Wealth is not a sin or a shortcoming. How one uses their wealth is the true measure of their character. John Kerry mortgaged his house to run his campaign. He put his home on the line for a job that pays $200,000 a year. Even if he serves two terms in office, he likely will not make enough in salary to cover the interest on this mortgage, which means that regardless of the outcome of November’s general election, John Kerry is paying out of his own pocket for the chance to be a public servant. He is giving up some of his own wealth to serve the people of this country.
Now we need to come to what John Kerry is. A lot of talk has been made of John Kerry’s military service. Regardless of the slings and arrows of his opponents, a few facts remain. John Kerry went to Vietnam on our government’s word that it was a necessary war. He willingly volunteered, and in his time there, was wounded in combat and received medals for his bravery. Upon his return, he saw that the government had deceived the people on the necessity of the conflict, and took a stand against it. Seeing the new information, and seeing the divide and hardship that it was causing, he worked to bring our troops home.
Of course, the Vietnam War ended thirty years ago. America is focused on the past in a time when we need to be looking to the future. We are embroiled in new wars that have many fronts. John Kerry has seen the face of war. He has been wounded in combat. He has traded gunfire with the enemy, and he has seen the horrors of battle. As Commander in Chief, he will be called upon to send America’s sons and daughters into battle and to their deaths. He knows firsthand the sacrifice he will ask our forces to make. His judgment will surely reflect this, making him far less likely to simply throw American lives at any problem. He will be a steadfast, yet careful commander. He will not waste American lives in futile pursuits. He will, however, recognize the time to strike against our enemies. He will not sacrifice our safety, but he will also not needlessly sacrifice our military.
John Kerry has a vision for America and a plan to bring it to fruition. His domestic policies are well-planned and beneficial to all Americans. He has promised to return fiscal responsibility to our government. He will work to reduce our tremendous deficit, and in doing so, help return the economy to a brisk, healthy state. John Kerry will work to keep jobs in America, so that people do not have to watch their employer outsource their job to other nations.
The education of America is important to John Kerry, and he has a plan for that, too. He will work to get greater college funding while working even harder to guarantee that our children graduate from High School fully prepared for our fast paced, ever-changing world.
Research and medical science are another priority that John Kerry wants to tackle. Experimental procedures that could save millions of people are waiting for approval, and John Kerry wants to give them the green light. He wants to ensure that future generations will not only be educated and free of debt, but they will be hale and healthy enough to enjoy their financial prosperity.
John Kerry will also work to put America back in the world’s respect. This may not seem important to a lot of people, but when we are respected around the globe, we can be a leader in peace and progress. We can help the entire world to be a better place. We need a leader who will go to the world and say "America is on the right track, and we would like you all on the train".
Regardless of what you may have heard about how John Kerry’s plans will not work, you might notice that you have not heard any alternatives. Simply put, John Kerry has a workable plan to cut taxes, provide healthcare, and educate the 90% of Americans that need more money, better education, and better healthcare. He has a plan to fight terrorism while bringing our troops home from war-torn areas. He has a plan to return America to a position of prominence and respect in the world community. John Kerry has a vision for America, and all he asks is for America to give him the chance to create a better country and a better world.

My blanket response to Ann Coulter's tabloid journalism for this week:
Dan Rather was a moron, this much we know. He and his staff screwed the pooch. It's unfortunate, but it's not the first time a journalist has been duped by fakes, jumped the gun, or rushed to scoop a story and forgot to cross his i's and dot his t's. It won't be the last.
Whoop-tee-doo. I don't hear the 'liberal media' screaming about how Bush isn't really the president (real liberals haven't forgotten the 2000 coup). I don't hear the 'liberal media' howling about how the Bush junta manipulated documents, the press, unwitting Secretaries of State, their own parents, etc... to bomb the crap out of the nation that just so happens to be squatting overtop of the second largest oil reserve in the world. I don't hear the 'liberal media' blasting Dick Cheney for telling Senator Leahy to "GO FUCK YOURSELF" (Although I do remember a two-week circus over Theresa Heinz Kerry saying "Shove it"). I don't hear the 'liberal media' going for the jugular over the prison abuse scandal. I don't hear very much about the fact that our government has been holding an American citizen in Gitmo in solitary confinement for THREE YEARS, even though evidence shows that HE'S INNOCENT. I don't remember there being more than a few seconds devoted to continuing talk from high-ranking Republicans stating that if you vote for John Kerry, you're actually personally flying a plane into the Sears Tower at 10:00am (for maximum casualties, mind you). I didn't hear rabid outrage over the assult weapon ban expiring, except for maybe the two days AFTER IT EXPIRED. But it's all good now!
So Dan Rather and CBS screwed up. When the rest of the media starts clinging to a non-biased, ethical standard, you can come to me and say "Look! This man is obviously biased!" Perhaps then I'll be more critical of him.
Until then, when a journalist lies for the Left, I'll consider that fair and balanced, Because the media's been lying for the Right for way too long. If journalism is all about lying, it's time we got a piece of the pie.

There's been a lot of weeping and gnashing of teeth among the Democrats since Vice President Cheney said if the country makes the wrong choice on Election Day, "then the danger is that we'll get hit again and we'll be hit in a way that will be devastating from the standpoint of the United States." (I mean there is weeping among Democrats who aren't actually rooting for us to get hit again because "we deserve it!")She couldn’t resist the sweet sweet words of Smoove B. Ann has come back. And she starts off with a hint that Democrats everywhere are simply wetting themselves in anticipation of another attack, because “we deserve it”. Right. That’s what I’m looking forward to, I’ll tell you what.
I believe this is one of those "issues" Democrats claim to be champing at the bit to discuss – in lieu of discussing the charges of the Swift Boat veterans. In fact, there is no more important issue in this election: Which candidate will best protect America from terrorist attack? Hint: It's not the guy whose running mate (sounding so much like Sean Hayes from "Will and Grace" it was eerie) said their message to the terrorists was: "We will destroy youuuuuuu!"Ok, John Edwards says to the terrorists “We will destroy you.” Let me get this straight. When John Edwards says it, it’s not true, right? Because way back on November 8, 2001, George W. Bush said “Where terrorist group exist of global reach, the United States and our friends and allies will seek it out and we will destroy it.”
And wow, hasn’t he done a great job? At least seven people in the Australian Embassy in Jakarta are so overjoyed with his destruction of terrorism, that they’re dead. Of course, it could be because of the bomb that went off there this morning. Who knows? Certainly, when John Edwards didn’t immediately follow up his statement by killing five terrorists with his bare hands, he was basically saying “I lied, I didn’t mean it, I want extremists to fly planes into buildings.”
Of course, it gets complicated trying to do a side-by-side comparison of the candidates' positions on terrorism since we don't know which John Kerry is running for president. The one who opposes war with Iraq or the one who supports it? The one who opposes the Patriot Act or the one who voted for it? The one who wants to work with the allies, or the one who ridicules them when they support America?Well I don’t know. Do I vote for the George Bush who was against the formation of the 9/11 commission, or the one who was behind it? The guy who wasn’t going to accept their findings, or the one who’s working to put them in place? So I cast my ballot for the Bush that was going to be single-minded in his determination to find, capture and/or kill Osama bin Laden, or to I give the not to the guy who can’t remember bin Laden’s name? The list goes on. Apparently, we’ve got four candidates. Oh, and there’s Cobb, Nader and Badnarik, too. Wonder how much flip-flopping they’ve done.
The only way Kerry's constantly changing positions on little matters like war would seem rational is if we found out he was using a Ouija board to determine his positions – much as he's using a crystal ball to predict when we should start removing U.S. troops from Iraq. Six months – whoops, no, four years. Stupid crystal balls – they never work!An elephant with three balls… Ok, I’m not even going to go there. Plain and simple, Kerry has a plan to get troops out. Even if that plan takes four years, it’s still better than no plan. Kerry supports women’s rights. Bush signs bills that quash them while he’s surrounded by aging, impotent men who golf-clap. Bush thinks that AIDS are the people who run around making his presidency work. Education, well heck. We don’t have none of those fancy words in Texas.
Republicans have been having raucous fun trying to predict what Kerry's next policy shift will be. Education? AIDS? Pollution? Dang! He picked women's rights! OK, here's another dollar. Give me three more balls, please.
Incidentally, of the massive funding for No Child Left Behind, a great deal of it is going to textbook manufacturers in Texas. Interesting, that.
While waiting for the Ouija board to give us Kerry's final answer on the Iraq war, perhaps we could get an answer on something simpler – like whether or not Kerry owns an SUV.Ok, so Kerry owns a few world-killing vehicles. So do a lot of Americans. Now, if it were Dennis Kucinich offering that speech, it’d be hypocritical. But it’s not. It’s John Kerry being a bit of a moron and trying to play both sides of a very small coin. Compare and contrast George Bush and his cocaine use. Did he? Didn’t he? Apparently, it was vitally important to know just how much marijuana passed into Bill Clinton’s esophagus, but don’t even begin to question how much nose candy George has sucked up his snout.
During the Democratic primaries, Kerry went to Michigan and bragged to the Detroit News: "We have some SUVs. We have a Jeep. We have a couple of Chrysler minivans. We have a PT Cruiser up in Boston. I have an old Dodge 600 that I keep in the Senate. ... We also have a Chevy, a big Suburban." He was starting to sound like a used-car dealer in a giant cowboy hat peddling his wares in a cheesy, low-budget late-night TV commercial: "We got Jeeps, we got PT Cruisers, we got minivans, and they're priced to move, folks ..."
But a few months after Kerry won the Michigan primary in February, the feckless opportunist told a bunch of environmentalists: "I don't own an SUV." When pressed on the apparent contradiction, Kerry explained: "The family has it. I don't have it." We're still waiting for reaction from some group calling themselves "SUV Owners for the Truth."
As I recall, when it came to funding his campaign last January with a $6 million mortgage on the "family" home in Boston – owned by Kerry's billionaire wife – he was not so picky about what he owns and what she owns. Back then, Kerry had somewhat more liberal views on the notion of "community property" – or maybe that was just the pre-nup talking.Hrm. If it were Theresa Heinz Kerry’s house, then how, exactly, could he have mortgaged it to fund his campaign? He couldn’t accept more than $2000 in pre-marital assets from her. I’m sure that the FEC would have been on that like flies on dung.
While Kerry works out his positions, apparently the voters have decided that their legitimate act of self-defense is to vote for Bush. Here we go again with the divisiveness. When Ann refers to the voters, she’s doing a Florida Modified Count, because the last time I checked, it was a dead heat between Bush and Kerry. So, Ann’s just ditching the half she doesn’t agree with, and claiming that the voters are going to vote Bush. Perhaps she works with Diebold? Welcome back, Ann.
Of course, I am a bit miffed that she didn’t even broach the Clinton subject. I mean, come on. The guy’s laying there on the table, sedated. I guess maybe it was too close to the way she has to get dates for her to go after him.
