So join us tonight, 7:30pm at DiRenzo's Tavern, Stanbridge and Sterigere.

Alright people, I know you're out there!

Come out to the first Drinking Liberally of the New Year! I know, I know, you're still hung over, but that's no reason to stay away! It's 2006, and that means it's time to start thinking about November 2nd!

So come on down, raise a pint and raise an issue! As always, 7:30pm, DiRenzo's Tavern, Stanbridge and Sterigere.

Well, the War on Christmas™ has gone back into its 9-month lull, and the Governator has issued a smackdown challenge to his hometown over state-sponsored murder, so I think it's time to drink and kvetch!

It's been kind of slow recently at the Norristown DL. Come on out, raise a pint, raise an issue, and raise your spirits!

7:30pm, this Tuesday and every Tuesday at DiRenzo's Tavern, Stanbridge and Sterigere Streets in Norristown.

Drinking Liberally tomorrow! Come out and get your drink on! I'm sure to be fired up (read my last two posts).

Note to [info]zeropatra:

Take 202 past King of Prussia. When 202 North splits off, keep going straight. You'll go over the Schyulkill, at which point it will turn into Markley Street. Follow Markley to Harding Street (it's the next light past the Elm Street train station - not the light at the station). Make a right onto Harding. Follow that to the next intersection, and make the soft right onto Sterigere. DiRenzo's parking lot is on the right before the traffic light.

Google shows it better than I can explain it, though

Well I'll be.

I was going to post this letter this week with a different commentary concerning the lack of response. However, now that I have a response, I'll just post both of them and open the floor for comments.

My name is Paul Bagosy, and I am the host of the Norristown Chapter of Drinking Liberally (www.drinkingliberally.org). We are a left-leaning, mostly Democratic discussion group. From time to time, we invite guest speakers to join us for an evening to give us their perspectives and add to our conversation. Our chapter would be honored, Mr. Casey, if you would come and speak to us sometime soon, to give us a first-hand view of your vision for Pennsylvania!

We meet at 7:30pm every Tuesday night at DiRenzo's Tavern, Sterigere & Stanbridge Streets, Norristown.

I look forward to hearing from you,

Paul Bagosy

Hi Paul,

My name is Abe Dyk and I handle Mr. Casey's schedule for the campaign.
Unfortunately Mr. Casey is not able to commit to attending one of your meetings at this time as we are booked up through the end of the year and have not begun to lay out the schedule for next year. That being said, I wanted to know if you thought it would be valuable to send a representative of the campaign to meet with the group as such as appearance would be easier to confirm.

Please let me know what you think,
Abe

Coming Up!

  • Oct. 31st, 2005 at 5:43 PM
Happy Hallowe'en, Blessed Samhain, Merry All Saint's Day, and a joyus any other holidays that I may have forgotten!

Last week was great. We had a record turn out, although I suspect that it may have had something to do with Chuck Pennacchio showing up. Good food, good beer, and great conversations that, as always, refused to stick to one topic.

We've got some fuel for the conversational fire tomorrow, though, with local Philadelphia wingnut Samuel Alito being nominated to a post where he can more effectively try to strip our freedoms away.

So come on out and raise a pint! As always, we start around 7:30 at DiRenzo's on Stanbridge and Sterigere, and I'll be the guy wearing the green boonie hat. See you there!

This week's Drinking Liberally in Norristown should be really good. Chuck Pennacchio, contender for the Democratic nomination to take down our very own puppy-loving Senator Santorum, will be our special guest for the evening.

Come one, come all! Bring your friends, even if they're Republicans! At least we'll have a good discussion!

-pb

Last night was pretty good with six people and a lively conversation that refuse to get cornered into one topic. Very lively! Next week, however, we've got a treat planned. Chuck Pennacchio, one of the Democratic contenders for the party's 2006 Senate nomination, will be joining us.

So, if you've been putting off coming out, or were thinking of skipping, make sure you're there on the 25th! Bring your friends! Let's make this the best turn out we've had!

Next up on the DL.

Last week was good, we had some new faces and a really good discussion about, among other things, taking back the preception of patriotism.

Same time this week at DiRenzo's. Come on out! Let's get a big discussion going! There's always plenty of room, and the menu is good.

2.50 pints, too. Sam Adams Octoberfest on draft!

Late LJ reminder that Drinking Liberally is on tonight, 7:30 at DiRenzo's, on the corner of Sterigere and Stanbridge. We've got a few non-lj (I think) people showing up, so a good showing would be nice =)

I might be running a few minutes behind, but I'll try to be there as close to 7:30 as possible.

Drinking Liberally - Coming Up!

Ok, well, last week sorta... sucked. Just me and V., and she's legally obligated to attend, under section 201-1a of the Spousal Privilege Contract.

Ok, she's not, but she was there anyway.

Anyway, I'm shooting for more than two this week!

We've had some complaints about the smoke, and I agree. Some of us have allergies. On a one-week trial basis, I'm going to move the night to DiRenzo's Tavern at the corner of Stanbridge and Sterigere. I'm thinking the bigger area will allow us to spread out more, and keep smokers to one side and non-smokers to the other, and still allow for plenty of conversation.

Also, I totally screwed up and lost the email list from a few weeks ago without getting the chance to enter them. Please forward this around!

See you Tuesday, September 27th at 7:30PM at DiRenzo's Tavern!

This week's reminder and things to come!

  • Sep. 13th, 2005 at 2:53 PM
I really need to get more on the ball with this thing. I'm going to try to get these out on Monday, not five hours before we start.

Last week was great, with the biggest turnout yet, a whopping eight people! That might not sound like much, but considering just over a month ago it was two, that's pretty good. There were enough of us to get me thinking about locations, and the fact that The Little Brown Jug is really going to be too small if we get any more. I'm thinking DiRenzo's, maybe?

Anyway, this week we'll still be at The Little Brown Jug.

We had some good conversations about hurricanes and human rights and a host of other topics. A good night, the best so far!

I've been in contact with Chuck Pennacchio's campaign, and we'll have him out sometime in the future. I'm hoping to have Alan Sandals come out to join us as well, and I'm definately going to be in contact with more local candidates. If anyone has someone in particular, let me know.

Any suggestions on weekly topics are appreciated, too! I wouldn't mind having a good conversation about the state of the nation four years after 9/11, and not just about wars, more about the fabric of our society's mental game.

So come on out! As always, 7:30pm at the Little Brown Jug, 105 W. Brown Street in Norristown.

Drinking Liberally

Come one, come all to the newest Drinking Liberally chapter, conveniently located in Norristown, PA. If you don't know what Drinking Liberally is, here's a crash course:

Drinking Liberally is an informal, inclusive Democratic drinking club. Raise your spirits while you raise your glass, and share ideas while you share a pitcher. Drinking Liberally gives like-minded, left-leaning individuals a place to talk politics. You don't need to be a policy expert and this isn't a book club - just come and learn from peers, trade jokes, vent frustration and hang out in an environment where it's not taboo to talk politics.

We meet Tuesdays at 7:30pm at The Little Brown Jug at 105 W. Brown Street in Norristown, which is located between the 1500 and 1600 blocks of Pine and Powell streets. It's one block off the 96, 97 and 98 SEPTA bus routes, so there's no need to drive.

Once we get established, we'll be bringing in as many guest speakers as we can coerce. Come drink a pint and have a conversation! For any more details, email me at drinkingliberally@phillygoth.net.
