Last night's game

  • Nov. 26th, 2007 at 7:27 AM
This is from a reply I made to a comment on my last post by jhfurnish:
That game was proof-positive that the Eagles can go places without Donovan McNabb.
This is what I'm hearing from the typical Philadelphia fan. "Feely should be the starter!" What people fail to realize is that when the game was on the line, Feely threw two interceptions that directly resulted in the loss. Whether it was 28-24 or 63-3, The Pats Still Won, except in this case, with 19 seconds left, The Eagles Still Had A Chance To Win And Their Quarterback Fucked The Dog. I don't see that as "going places," and I'm willing to bet that had everything else gone the way it had (the Eagles having a lights-out game and the Pats having their worst game of the year), with Donovan as the starter, the Eagles would have won.

---

Feely is a backup. He had 3 good quarters. He's a good backup. But, in the end, when you're facing the best team in the league, he proved why he's a backup and not a starter.

I'll give the exceedingly rare props to Andy Reid. This was a well-planned and well-executed game. Every member of that team played their hearts out. People you've never heard of stepped up and made plays they might not be physically capable of.

Too bad there are no moral victories in the NFL. When the clock hit 0:00 last night, the Eagles were 5-6 and the Pats were still unbeaten. Like I said about last week's win over the Dolphins:

"It wasn't pretty, but it's a win, and I'll take it." I'm sure every Pats fan out there will agree with me.

Granted, I don't know a whole lot about football. But here are a few thoughts I have. Isn't McNabb's name carrying himself further than his abilities lately? The Eagles, did score, on average, higher this last game, against an undefeated team, lead by Feely. Doesn't that count for something? Also, I think the 22 point spread handicap thingie that was given to the Eagles might have lit a fire under their butt. At the very least, folks should be proud that it was not a smash down roll over fest that the press was predicting. I also wonder if the Pats did not take Feely as serious as they typically take McNabb, as well.

I'd take a banged-up McNabb over a perfectly healthy Feely any day of the week (preferably Sunday). Feely is a good backup, and he's come in the clutch a number of times and delivered. But he's a backup. There's 30 other teams that haven't seen fit to even sniff around him, and the one team that did (the miserable Dolphins) quickly gave him back. When even the Dolphins think you suck as a starter, well, that's a pretty big knock on you.

I'd like to see him around for a long time as a backup. Just like Koy Detmer was a great backup, so is Feely. But not more than that. McNabb is the starter, and they've got to keep it that way until they think Kolb is ready or they get someone else.

McNabb is balls. AJ isn't good enough to be starter, but there's gotta be SOMEONE out there we can pick up who is.

Also, props to Andy for that on-sides kick. Ballsy move that would have really done some damage if they could have made a go out of it.
